Dryer Vent Cleaning:

Did you know that one of the most common causes of residential fires is lint buildup in conventional dryer vents? The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that clothes dryers are associated with approximately 15,600 fires yearly.

Regularly cleaning the lint trap is a start, but even still, tiny particles will always accumulate in the vent and inaccessible spaces. Restricted airflow causes hot air to be pushed back into the dryer, which then causes overheating and potential fire hazard.

In addition to being a safety hazard, a clogged dryer vent also uses significantly more energy with each load. Recent industry studies suggest that an excessively clogged dryer vent may add an additional $18-$24 per month to your home's energy bill. That translates to almost $300 per year in unnecessary utility fees.

How often should dryer vents be cleaned?

It all depends on the following:

  1. The number of family members and pets in the home
  2. The dryer takes longer than one full cycle to dry
  3. The type of laundry that is washed—some items tend to produce more lint, such as cloth diapers, blankets and towels
  4. The number of turns and elbows in the venting
  5. The length of the venting

Remember: lint buildup is inevitable, and if ignored, your dryer will experience some degree of buildup. The best way to determine the amount of buildup in your vent is to monitor the drying time of a typical laundry load. When your load takes over 30-45 minutes to dry, it's time to clean out the dryer vent.

 What should I expect?

We are guests in your home, and we want you to be completely comfortable with allowing us into your household. Before any work is started, we do a pre-inspection and answer any questions you may have before we begin the process of dryer vent cleaning.

Please note that we do work on second-story laundry rooms regularly, so this is not an issue for us—just make sure and let us know ahead of time.

This can happen while you are home or out doing other things, whatever is easiest and most comfortable for you. Depending on the level of build-up, the length of the vent, what area of home the dryer vent exits,  and number of elbows, it can take anywhere from 1-2 hours to ensure a thorough clean.

Do I need to do anything ahead of time?

All we ask is that you clear plenty of space around the dryer, if possible, so we can pull it out of its resting spot and easily access the venting. We typically start from outside the house, so we’ll also need access to area of your yard where the venting meets the exterior. If you have any pets, please remove them from the spaces in which we’ll be working.
